Volatile Substance Abuse (VSA) is the biggest killer of young people between the ages of 10 and 16 in the United Kingdom; more than all illegal drugs put together. Up to 3 young people per week die as the result of the direct and indirect use of these mostly household products. But it’s not only death that is a major worry but damage to all the internal organs and the fact that if you talk to users of many other so called ‘hard’ drugs a large number of them have a history of volatile substance abuse.

This course will help you identify the products most commonly used and explore why people use them. We’ll examine UK drugs laws in relation to VSA and their effectiveness and assist you in developing appropriate strategies to enable you to talk to young people about this subject with confidence.
