NCFE Level 2 - Certificate in Drug Awareness Studies & their ApplicationsThe courses provide Nationally recognised qualifications and are ideal for individuals who would benefit from a wider understanding of drugs and related issues and how to respond to them. Level 2 Certificate in Drug Awareness Studies & their Applications The Level 2 award covers 51 guided learning hours delivered in 3 hour sessions over 17 weeks. Course Dates /Times: Every Tuesday from 9th September 08 - 10th February 09 - 9.30am - 12.30pm Structure of contents, Level 2 Certificate in Drug Awareness Studies & their Applications Unit 01 - Understand drug use/misuse Element 1.1 - Show an awareness of the size, scope and complexity of drug/misuse in the UK and elsewhere. Element 1.2 - Show an awareness of reasons why people use drugs. Element 1.3 - Categorise drugs and explain their effects. Element 1.4 - Show and understanding of the importance of attitudes and values and their effects on behaviour. Unit 02 - Recognise and respond to drug use/misuse Element 2.1 - Describe signs and symptoms relating to drug use/misuse. Element 2.2 - Show a basic understanding of the laws relating to drug misuse in England and Wales. Element 2.3 - Show a basic understanding of the range of responses to drug use/misuse. Element 2.4 - Show a basic understanding of the types of drug services available and how and when to involve them. Element 2.5 - Show an understanding of the range of treatment options and their different applications. Element 2.6 - Distinguish between different types and levels of drug use/misuse and the associated problems. Element 2.7 - Show an understanding of the use and limitations of simple first line responses. Element 2.8 - Show an understanding of the practical application of harm reducing methods an the drugs field. Element 2.9 - Show an awareness of a range of drug related incidents which may require an immediate response. Unit 03 - Communicate with young people about drugs Element 3.1 - Use effective communication skills when talking to young people about drugs. Students must choose 2 from the following 4 units to make up the final Level 2 Award Unit 04 - Work with communities Element 4.1 - Show an understanding of the different types of community involvement. Element 4.2 - Identify practical proposals for community action in responding to drug use/misuse. Unit 05 - Undertand solvents and volatile substance misuse Element 5.1 - Demonstrate awareness of the history and development of volatile substance abuse (VSA) in the UK. Element 5.2 - Show an understanding of volatile substance abuse (VSA) and how statistics are gathered about the different users. Element 5.3 - Show an understanding of the varisou effects of volatile substance abuse. Element 5.4 - Show an awareness of why people use volatile substances. Element 5.5 - Show knowledge of the range of responses to volatile substance abuse Unit 06 - Show awareness of issues and concerns around alcohol use/misuse Element 6.1 - Show knowledge of the issues and concerns around alcohol use/misuse. Element 6.2 - Show awareness of the different styles of drinking and their potential. Element 6.3 - Distinguish between different types and levels of alcohol use and the possible consequences. Element 6.4 - Show an understanding of the attitudes towards, and the impact of, alcohol use among young people. Unit 07 - Consider blood borne infections related to drug use/misuse Element 7.1 - Show an understanding of the nature, extent and effects of blood borne infections in the UK and elsewhere. Element 7.2 - HIV and other blood borne viruses. Element 7.3 - Show an understanding of a range of attitudes and values about blood borne infections.
